I write Christian romance with an international twist. Heroes with honor and integrity and strong, can-do heroines are my thing. #christianromance

Have you ever visited the setting of a book you lo Have you ever visited the setting of a book you love? For a couple of years, we lived in Surrey, the setting of Jane Austen’s novel Emma. We regularly visited Box Hill, the scene of the infamous picnic where Emma humiliates Miss Bates and gets rebuked by Mr. Knightley. It’s a stunning place, and my children used to love rolling down the steep slopes. 😱 Can you think of a book location you’ve been to?

Do you like sad stories? I’m a total sucker for Do you like sad stories? I’m a total sucker for a happy ending. So much so that I won’t voluntarily read a book if I’ve been told it has a tragic ending. I don’t mind some heartache along the way, and some of my favorite books had me choking up (Beth’s death in Little Women, anyone?) but I want my characters to end in a better place than when they started. I know that means I’m missing out on some great stories, but it is what it is. Do you mind whether a book has a happy ending?

This week, I’ve been reading an extraordinary bo This week, I’ve been reading an extraordinary book. As far as I know, Accepting Elijah’s Heart is M. Michelle Derosier’s first published novel. It’s a romance between Reina, a young widowed mother still torn with grief over the murder of her husband, and her neighbor Elijah, a reformed playboy.

Reina was once a strong Christian but since she lost her policeman husband, she’s been drowning in grief, anger, and bitterness. Only her baby Nate keeps her going: the baby her husband never lived to meet. When the unthinkable happens and she forgets her baby in a cab, her neighbor Elijah notices the commotion, and so begins an unlikely friendship.

This is no cookie-cutter Christian romance. It's fresh, raw, and deeply emotional. Follow the link in my bio for the rest of my impressions on this incredible debut novel, including information about where you can get it. Bravo, @writerderosier ! Awesome, awesome job.

Do you read one book at a time and never start ano Do you read one book at a time and never start another until you finish? Or do you have a bunch of books on the go all at once? I read a heap of books at the same time, which isn’t a great habit. It used to mean there were a lot of book orphans I started and never got around to finishing.

These days I’ve restricted myself to one book per category at a time. So, at any moment, I’ll be reading: one novel in my genre, one book on writing craft, one book related to running a business, and one book about a technical skill. Oh, and one book I’m reading with my children, and perhaps another book just because. It’s still five or six books at the same time, but much better than before! What are your reading habits like?

Can you think of any movie adaptations that ruined Can you think of any movie adaptations that ruined the book? I didn’t like the Mansfield Park adaptation starring Billie Piper, and wasn’t a fan of the Pride and Prejudice movie with Kiera Knightley. It left out so much and felt very rushed. And I refuse to watch The Hobbit. Way too much extra stuff added into the movies. How dare they? 🤣 Are there any movie adaptations you feel fell flat?

What’s the first book you ever bought with your What’s the first book you ever bought with your own money? When I was 10 or 11 years old, I remember going to the book store and using my pocket money to buy the novelisations based on the science fiction TV series “V”. I bought at least five of those over a number of months, and read them over and over. Yes, I was weird. 🤣 How about you? Do you remember which books you first bought for yourself?

Let’s talk about love triangles. Back in the ‘ Let’s talk about love triangles. Back in the ‘80s, I loved watching the Colbys. Anyone remember that soap opera with the big hair and power suits? Much of the plot went way over my head, but the storyline involving Jeff, Miles, and Fallon/Randall riveted me. I was totally team Jeff, but still felt sorry for poor Miles. Love triangles are an extremely popular trope, but I always feel terrible for the third wheel left out in the cold. If I ever write one, I’ll be sure to give the lonely heart a happy ending. Maybe in their own book. 😁 Do you like reading love triangle stories?

Where are my four-eyed friends at? 🤓 I’ve nee Where are my four-eyed friends at? 🤓 I’ve needed glasses since I was ten years old. But I’ve not included a bespectacled character in my books until my latest project. Unfortunately, it’s not one of the main characters. I’ve not read many romances with short-sighted people. It’s as though everyone who falls in love has 20-20 vision or wears contacts. Does anyone remember the saying, “Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses?” I think I’d better write about a woman who wears glasses in my next book. We need representation! 😁

What genres do you enjoy reading? I'm a pretty ecl What genres do you enjoy reading? I'm a pretty eclectic reader and enjoy a variety of genres, as long as the stories aren't dark and depressing. I love romance (of course), historical fiction, classic literature, epic fantasy, science fiction, mystery, suspense, thriller, and women's fiction. And my children give me a decent excuse to revisit a bunch of childhood favourites. I especially love books with a Christian worldview. What do you like to read?

What do you call today? Is it Mardi Gras, Pancake What do you call today? Is it Mardi Gras, Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday? Here in the UK, a lot of people call it Pancake Day, and we'll be eating a lot of--you guessed it--pancakes. My Norwegian husband loves his with blueberry jam, but we also like strawberry jam, honey, and the traditional British lemon juice and sugar. How do you like your pancakes?

I speak British, or Commonwealth, English. But bec I speak British, or Commonwealth, English. But because many of my readers are in the US, I opted to Americanize my writing. So, my editor makes sure my characters wear pants instead of trousers, they enjoy sodas rather than fizzy drinks, and if they're feeling hungry (not peckish), they'll snack on potato chips instead of crisps. I know it might be slightly controversial, (sorry, my Commonwealth friends!) but I made that editorial decision early on and now keep it up to stay consistent. What kind of English do you speak?

It’s a home makeover romance! We don’t have a It’s a home makeover romance!

We don’t have a TV, but when we did, remodeling shows were among my favorite. It never gets old to see skilled and creative people transform a dilapidated property into a gorgeous home to die for. So, when I started reading Jen Peter’s Trusting His Heart, I knew I was in for a treat. It combines reno with romance, and they go together as well as peanut butter and jelly.

As a person who has no aptitude for carpentry or building, it was fascinating to read about a female contractor. Seriously: the one time I tried to assemble a flat-pack bookshelf, I somehow managed to have two handsful of screws and a couple of boards left over. So, smart and savvy Cat Billings grabbed my attention at once as she takes on a huge remodeling project and butts heads with her electrical contractor, Justin Cooper. As though it’s not bad enough that the two can’t see eye to eye, a rash of mysterious thefts threatens the renovation project.

Can Cat and Justin renovate the mansion, catch the crooks, overcome their fears, and find genuine love?

Trusting His Heart is one of a ton of books in a huge sale of clean and wholesome romance. I cannot personally vouch for all the other titles there, but several authors I’ve read and enjoyed are part of this sale, including Autumn MacArthur, Mary Manners, Alexa Verde, and Sara Blackard. Click the link in my bio to find out where to get these books.

I'm deep into post-beta reader revisions of my manuscript. It should have been ready for my editor, the amazingly talented Krista Wagner @wagnerfamily131, on Monday, but it's slow going. What's everyone else working on? I know I'm not the only one in the trenches today!

If I wasn't spending so much time writing, I'd focus more on art. It's so relaxing. At the moment, I only draw a few times a year, like when I'm making visual clues for my children's treasure hunts. I've tried knitting but I stink at it. 😁 I'm either dropping stitches or making them too tight. What about you?
