I've been raving about this book to everyone, so p I've been raving about this book to everyone, so please excuse me if you've already heard my raptures 😁. Baby Is Cold Outside by Susan May Warren is so well-written that I would put it down at times just to marvel at the talent of the author.

Set in 1949, it begins with Dottie, a woman who has lost everything most precious to her. Her only son Nelson died in the war and now she leads a lonely existence, embittered by the joy and family togetherness everyone else seems to have in the Christmas season. Then there’s Violet, who was a mechanic for the US Army during the war. Seen as too independent and unwomanly by her family and friends, her last hope of love has just been crushed, and she’s just about given up hope that marriage and family will be in her future.

An enormous storms traps her and Dottie together, along with two men and a child who needs their help, and the stage is set for an astoundingly sweet Christmas miracle.

The characters are so real that I want them to be my friends. The plot had me on the edge of my seat and it’s all woven together with brilliant word craft. And you know what’s even more amazing? It’s completely free! It’s part of a collection of Christian romances available for a limited time. Follow the link in my bio to find the promotion. Please get it now! You can thank me later.

What's your favorite romance trope? I've tried my What's your favorite romance trope? I've tried my hand at enemies to love, single parent romance, second chance romance, and boss's daughter/poor boy rich girl. My next book (currently with my beta readers) is a friends-to-more romance. I absolutely love this trope, but it's been the hardest of all to write.

Which romance tropes do you enjoy reading (or writing) most?

Did your love of reading begin as a child, or did Did your love of reading begin as a child, or did it come later in life? My mother told me I started reading when I was three. My husband began when he was seven. He clearly remembers his first reading lesson, while I can't recall ever not knowing how. But now, when we're both decidedly middle-aged, it's impossible to tell which of us was the early reader and who started a little later. 😊 What matters is that we both got there in the end. Have you always loved to read?

True story: the last book I read that made me cry True story: the last book I read that made me cry was The House in Pooh Corner by AA Milne. I was reading it to my children a couple of months ago and teared up at the end when Christopher Robin is leaving his toy friends. 😭 He's saying goodbye, and Pooh doesn't get it. I'm getting misty-eyed right now just thinking about it. It's so beautiful and yet so achingly sad! Today is Winnie the Pooh Day, so I had to give a shoutout to those timeless stories. What's the last book you read that made you cry? And, yes, children's books totally count!

I've been thinking a lot about sowing seeds lately I've been thinking a lot about sowing seeds lately. Not the plant kind, because every plant I've attempted to grow withers and dies. 😅 But other kinds of seeds have been on my mind. You know the ones: little things you plant and nurture faithfully, until one day they grow into big things. Stephen Covey, perhaps quoting someone else, said, "Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny." I believe this is based on the Biblical principle of sowing and reaping, as in Proverbs 11:18: "to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward."

I hope I'll be a lot more successful with my spiritual seeds than my physical ones! Happy Sunday!

This week, I've been reading Least Expected, an ov This week, I've been reading Least Expected, an over-50s romance by @autumnmacarthur . I was immediately charmed by the story of Maggie, a rainbow-haired set designer who, as she herself puts it, “can’t spell demure, let alone act it.” 🤣 She meets store owner Edgar, who’s got the reputation of being a stuffed shirt living under the thumb of his domineering mother. Their attraction is instant, but the way ahead is far from smooth. I loved reading about how this middle-aged couple opened up to each other and trusted God to give them more than they ever imagined would be possible.

Least Expected is part of a boxed set of four books called What Happens in London. The whole set is on sale on Amazon right now for just 99 cents, but that price won’t last forever. Grab it while you can!

It's #freebiefriday! I recently read Chasing Amand It's #freebiefriday! I recently read Chasing Amanda by Robin Patchen. It's the first part of a two-book series that tells the love story of Amanda, a chef, and Mark, a US Marine. Mark's spending a boring evening at a bar when he notices a creepy-looking guy stalking a waitress. Mark steps in to protect Amanda and they have an instant connection. But Mark's being deployed to Aghanistan in a week and he's sure there can't be a future with this sweet woman who's touched his heart.

"Set your course by the stars, not by the lights o "Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship." I love this quote from a man who lived through, and fought in, two world wars. I'm in the process of deciding which things are passing ships and which are firm and worth setting my course by. Sometimes, as Gen. Bradley knew, passing ships can seem a lot bigger and brighter than the stars. But I'm striving to shut out the noise and flashing lights and navigate by eternal unshakable truths.

Which famous author would you like to meet? Franci Which famous author would you like to meet? Francine Rivers, for me. And if I include those who have passed on, I would love to know Jane Austen's process. Did she use beta readers? Was she a plotter or a pantser? Did her hand ever get cramped from writing those books longhand... with a quill?

Do you have a favorite book you love to re-read? O Do you have a favorite book you love to re-read? Or perhaps, like me, you have a stack of them? I have too many to list, but I'd have to include the Lord of the Rings, anything by Jane Austen, Francine Rivers, Frank Peretti and Grace Livingston Hill. 😊 I'm about to delve into my semi-annual re-read of the Lord of the Rings audiobooks, performed by the peerless Rob Inglis.

Ebook? Print? Or audio? What's your favorite forma Ebook? Print? Or audio? What's your favorite format to read? It's a tough choice for me between print and audio. Print because I love touching those pages, and nothing beats the smell of a new book. But I can "read" audiobooks while getting other things done. I love ebooks, too, because I can highlight and make notes. If I really, really, really like a book, I might even get all three formats. 😁 How do you like to consume your books?
