Milla Holt: Inspirational Christian Romance

Milla Holt: Inspirational Christian Romance

He thinks he knows…

Books, Pre-order

Sometimes the deepest wounds aren’t from love lost, but from what betrayal makes us believe about ourselves.

For Zach, trust once ended in disaster. Now he’s convinced he can see the warning signs and keep his heart safe. But when Kezia walks into his world, polished and guarded yet achingly real, his certainty begins to crumble.

Old Town Symphony is the story of what happens when self-protection collides with the possibility of love—and the risk of being truly known.

Zach Falconer, creater of the reality music show Starbound, main character in Old Town Symphony by Milla Holt
Zach Falconer, music entrepreneur, creater and executive producer of the reality show Starbound

One of the things I love most about writing romance is exploring how the past shapes the present. Every character carries scars—some visible, some hidden—and those wounds affect the way they love, trust, and protect themselves.

Zach Falconer is no exception.

Six years ago, he let someone into his life who didn’t deserve that trust. The betrayal cut deep, not because of lingering feelings, but because of what it revealed about him. He saw himself as strong and discerning, and discovering how easily he’d been fooled shook the foundation of who he thought he was.

Ever since, Zach has lived by a simple rule: never be caught off guard again. He’s convinced himself he can read people. That he can see the warning signs. That he’ll never fall for charm masquerading as character.

But here’s the problem with building walls too high: they don’t just keep danger out—they keep connection out, too.

When Kezia enters his orbit, Zach thinks he knows exactly what kind of woman she is. Poised. Polished. A little too perfect. All the red flags are waving, and his instinct is to protect himself by keeping his distance.

Yet the longer he listens, the more he sees something different. Something real. And that terrifies him even more—because it means his defenses might not be as unshakable as he believed.

Zach’s journey in Old Town Symphony is about more than falling in love. It’s about learning the difference between self-protection and self-imprisonment. It’s about discovering that true strength isn’t in shutting people out, but in daring to let the right person in.

If you’ve ever wrestled with trust—wondering if your heart will only betray you again—I think you’ll find something of yourself in Zach’s story.

✨ It’s my birthday month, and turning a year o ✨ It’s my birthday month, and turning a year older always puts me in a reflective mood.

If I could send a spoiler-filled text back to myself on the cusp of beginning adult life, here’s what it would say…

* That guy you have a crush on? He’ll never notice you. Be grateful — he’s bad news.

* The man you marry will be nothing like you expected. But he’s perfect for you.

* You’ll leave the corporate grind to raise four children. You won’t miss the “dream job” one bit.

* That haircut in the late ’90s? Don’t. Just don’t.

* You think you’re fat. You’re just fine.

* You’ll homeschool. And instead of feeling weird, it’ll feel right.

* You think writing a novel is impossible. You’ll end up writing twelve. And counting.

* You’ve been through some stuff and learned God’s faithfulness. You’ll go through more — and He’ll never fail you.

* When you’re 51, you’ll look back and think: the best chapters are still ahead.

And now I’m curious:
👉 What’s one spoiler you’d send your younger self?

The sermon at church today was based on Psalm 37. The sermon at church today was based on Psalm 37. So timely. I'll just leave this here.

1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers,
Neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good;
So shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD;
And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in him;
And he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,
And thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him:
Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:
Fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off:
But those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:
Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth;
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12 The wicked plotteth against the just,
And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13 The Lord shall laugh at him:
For he seeth that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.

16 A little that a righteous man hath is better
Than the riches of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken:
But the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright:
And their inheritance shall be for ever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time:
And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

Old Town Symphony is officially out in the world — my 12th novel.

This one feels different. Not just because of the pages (and there are many 😉), but because of the heart behind them.

More than ever, I feel called to write stories that:
🎶 Speak truth when the world offers confusion
🎶 Bring light when shadows feel overwhelming
🎶 Offer hope to hearts that are weary
🎶 Point toward redemption, always

Old Town Symphony is a deeply emotional, slow-burn Christian romance set behind the scenes of a reality TV competition. If you love stories about courage, calling, and the risk of being truly known — I think you’ll find something here that resonates.

In the past few days, I've seen many people asking In the past few days, I've seen many people asking: How do we respond? What do we do next? How do I walk in God's purpose, stand on truth, and live out my faith with boldness?

These questions have been echoing in my own heart. And the answer keeps bringing me back to these words:

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col. 3:17)

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Col. 3:23)

In times of darkness, we don't retreat—we shine brighter. We don't whisper—we speak with clarity and conviction.

For me, my first priorities are as a wife and homeschooling mother. Raising our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. And alongside that, I will continue to write.

This is my lane. This is my calling. To write stories that…

✨ Speak truth when the world offers confusion
✨ Bring light when shadows feel overwhelming
✨ Offer hope to hearts that are weary
✨ Remind us that love conquers fear
✨ Point toward redemption, always

Tomorrow, my 12th novel releases. It feels different now—not just another book, but another opportunity to be faithful in what God has called me to do. To use the gift He's given me with renewed purpose and unwavering boldness.

Your lane may look different. Maybe you teach, or heal, or build, or serve, or lead, or create in other ways. But the same God who calls us to courage is at work in all of us.

Whatever we do, may we do it boldly, faithfully, and unapologetically in His name.

The darkness cannot overcome the light. It never has. It never will.

I don’t often write posts like this. But this we I don’t often write posts like this. But this week has left me heavy-hearted.

Someone has lost his life for holding to his beliefs—many of which I share. It’s a sobering reminder that faith isn’t something to tuck away. We are called to live it with courage and love.

Tonight I’m especially praying for his wife and small children. May God wrap them in His comfort and peace, and may He help us all to walk boldly, yet tenderly, in a world that needs His light.

✨ Faith, not fear.
✨ Not ashamed of the gospel.
✨ Choosing boldness, choosing peace.

Her voice holds up the entire track. Invisible. Uncredited. Anonymous. The no-name ghost in the industry machine.

Then a stranger offers her a card. Zach Falconer’s building a new reality competition. Serious. Not a circus. Call if you’re interested.

A reality show? That’s the kind of cheap shortcut fame-hungry wannabes take. Not the path for a serious artist. Not the dream she’s chased since she was a girl.

But what kind of “authentic music” is she making now? And with her finances hanging by a thread, how much longer can she stay in the shadows?

So what does she do? Step into the spotlight… or remain invisible?

She's got the voice. But will anyone listen?

She’s trained. She’s sacrificed. She’s poured years into honing her voice. But talent alone hasn’t been enough, and this is her last chance to be heard.

Kezia Blair never wanted gimmicks. Never imagined herself on a reality TV competition. But when every other door stays shut, sometimes the stage you didn’t want becomes the only one left.

So she steps onto the bright lights of the Starbound audition stage. Four judges wait, including the one with the most power to change her future: the intense and unreadable Zach Falconer.

It’s not just an audition. It’s everything she’s worked for. Everything she’s risked.

The audience is on their feet, roaring their approval. But Zach? He leans back… and says nothing.

💔 He thought he’d learned his lesson. He thou 💔 He thought he’d learned his lesson.
He thought he could see the warning signs.
He thought he’d never fall again.
He was wrong.

Slide 1
Six years since Verity.
And he still hated how easily she’d fooled him.
Not because he still cared. He didn’t.
But because of what she represented:
The version of himself he’d sworn to bury.

Slide 2
He was the fool who mistook charm for character.
Who followed his feelings straight off a cliff.
Never again.

Slide 3
So when she walks in—poised, polished, utterly self-contained—
he knows exactly what kind of woman she is.
Or thinks he does.

Slide 4
The resemblance is too close.
The timing too perfect.
He can’t let himself trust her.
Not when everything in him screams danger.

Slide 5
But the more she sings...
the more the mask he’s certain she’s wearing begins to crack.
And what’s underneath doesn’t look anything like Verity.

Slide 6
Still, he keeps his distance.
He’s protecting the show.
Protecting himself.
That’s all this is. Right?

Slide 7
But what if he’s wrong?
What if he’s about to lose the one person
who sees past the image
and calls out the truth in him?

Slide 8
He told himself it wasn’t personal.
But what if she is the most personal thing of all?

Just finished When Morning Comes by @osaradeyemi , Just finished When Morning Comes by @osaradeyemi , and I absolutely loved it. What a book!

A powerful second-chance romance set in Nigeria, this book doesn’t just tell Feyi and Tola's gripping love story, although it hits all the romantic feels. It tells a story of faith, forgiveness, and the long consequences of our choices.

She was the rebellious rich girl; he was the serious, principled Christian. Years ago, they gave in to temptation—and the fallout was enough to tear them apart for six long years. Feyi fled to England, carrying the weight of what happened (and a secret she never told Tsola), believing she'd ruined everything.

Their journey was a white-knuckle ride that broke my heart and pieced it back together again.

This is unapologetically Christian fiction, and one of the things I appreciated most was how it didn’t airbrush sin or tidy up consequences with a bow. It shows how the emotional fallout from a single choice can last for years. For generations. But also, how God meets us in that. How He restores.

I felt like I lived in Lagos while reading this. The food, the culture, the clothes, the characters—I was there. More, please!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.

To savour the moments between the moments—the shared laughter, the almost-touches, the conversations that mean more than either character dares admit. *waves excitedly from my pop-up recording booth*

I’m 72% through recording Home Town Melody, and I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! At this rate, God willing, I should be wrapping up the narration next month. 🎉

I’m planning to record Small Town Harmony right after this one, and I’ve been debating whether or not to release both books at the same time. On the one hand, I’d love Home Town Melody to come out as soon as it’s done. But as a listener, I prefer binging audiobooks back-to-back; not a fan of waiting for the next book in a series! 🎧✨

It’s been quite the journey learning to bring these characters to life with my voice, but I’m loving every minute of it. Well... maybe not the parts where I have to re-record because I sneezed, or my stomach growled... or other noises intruded 😅

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to having BOTH stories ready for your ears!

If you enjoy audiobooks, are you a greedy binge listener like me? Or do you take small, dainty sips?

I don’t normally share “behind the scenes” p I don’t normally share “behind the scenes” pictures because I’m hesitant to show the mess that goes into making the sausage. But today, as I’m fully immersed in outlining Old Town Symphony, I’m pulling the curtain aside just a bit.

Although I always create detailed outlines, usually I’m pretty relaxed with timelines. Who’s counting the days, right? But writing a romance set against the backdrop of a TV reality show means I have to juggle industry-appropriate broadcast dates, realistic rehearsal schedules, and live shows alongside the developing love story. No pressure!

I’ve learned my lesson from past projects where a “week” somehow lasted 11 days (oops!). I don’t want to be 60,000 words into my first draft, only to realise I’ve written a “live” show as airing three days after it even happened (time travel, anyone? 🤪). This time, I’m plotting everything down to the day!

Hence this photo of my very necessary timeline notes and calendar filled with in-story events.

And yes, this is why I’ve been a bit quiet lately—I’m deep in the planning trenches making sure everything lines up perfectly.

Who else gets a bit obsessive when a story demands this kind of precision? Or am I the only one diving deep into the rabbit hole? 😄

📚 Unpopular Opinion Time: Let’s Talk About Li 📚 Unpopular Opinion Time: Let’s Talk About Little Women’s Great Romance Betrayal

I know this book is a beloved classic, but can we discuss how Louisa May Alcott BROKE MY HEART? Because Jo and Laurie were MEANT TO BE and I will die on this hill. 😤

Dear Amy,

I’m sure you’re lovely, but you were literally his second choice as the closest thing to Jo, and I cannot forgive this literary injustice. And you burned Jo’s manuscript.

Dear Professor Bhaer,

Sir, with all due respect... actually, no. No respect. You criticized Jo’s writing. Laurie supported her dreams. I rest my case.

Dear Jo,

I know you’re fictional and this happened over 150 years ago, but I’M NOT OVER IT.

Apparently, Louisa May Alcott didn’t even WANT to marry her characters off. Her publisher forced her to pair them all up, and she was so resistant to it that she deliberately made Jo reject Laurie out of spite. She said “I won’t marry Jo to Laurie to please anyone”!

But then... to take Laurie—this vibrant, witty, passionate character who was CREATED to be Jo’s perfect match—and give him to AMY? Amy, who burned Jo’s manuscript? Amy, who was the perfect example of everything Jo fought against (being “proper” and “ladylike”)?

The worst part is how Alcott built up this amazing friendship between Jo and Laurie, with all their inside jokes and shared interests and perfect chemistry, only to completely derail it. It’s like she created this perfect love story and then set it on fire just to prove a point!

(Though I have to admit, there’s something deliciously ironic about the fact that she wrote one of the most discussed and debated romantic plotlines in literature specifically because she was annoyed at having to write romance! 😂)

Still not over it. Will never be over it. This is why we write romance novels with satisfying endings!

Who’s with me? Or am I the only one still carrying this torch? 😅

P.S. At least in my books, the childhood best friend GETS THE GIRL. Just saying. 😌

🚫 Tropes I’ll Never Write: The Love Triangle 🚫 Tropes I’ll Never Write: The Love Triangle Edition

You know that moment in a book when the gorgeous-but-tortured Hero #1 is clearly perfect for our heroine, but wait! Here comes the equally gorgeous-but-differently-tortured Hero #2 to throw everything into chaos? Yeah, that’s not happening in my books. Ever.

Look, I get it. Some readers live for that delicious angst of “Who will she choose?” But I’m over here like, “Girl, choose therapy and a good baker instead.” 😅

My reasons for being Team No Triangle:

• My anxiety can’t handle it

• My characters have enough problems without dating multiple people

• I’m terrible at math, and geometry was never my strong suit

• I still have emotional damage from too many YA triangles in the 2010s

• Life’s too short for spreadsheets tracking who kissed whom when

Instead, my characters will know exactly who they’re meant to be with... they’ll just be completely terrible at admitting it. Because I’m not a monster - I still want everyone to suffer a little. Just, you know, in a more straightforward way. 😉

What about you? Are you Team Love Triangle or Team Run Away Screaming?
