What’s a book or series that can transport you i What’s a book or series that can transport you instantly back to your childhood?

For me, that would be the Chronicles of Narnia. The first time I read those books, I was within the age range of the Pevensey children, and I was right there with them on every step of their adventures. Reading those stories reminds me of the sense of wonder I felt back then.

Do you have a book that takes you right back?

Do you own multiple editions of any book? Some bo Do you own multiple editions of any book?

Some books are so special that I'll get them in several formats: ebook, print, and audio. Ebook for convenience, print to sit on my shelves and make me happy to look at, and audio to listen to while I do my chores.

Among the few that I have in several editions are the Lord of the Rings (audio and print), and several Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Frank Peretti works (audio, print and ebook).

Have you done the same?

My book nook looks nothing like the one in this picture! I do most of my reading in my battered old recliner in the corner of our living room, but it’s always a pleasure to put my feet up and settle in with a good book.

If you could erase a book from your brain and expe If you could erase a book from your brain and experience it for the first time again, which book would you choose?

There are so many to choose from, but the first that comes to mind is The Lord of the Rings. The sense of awe and the immense scale of that thrilling story swept me up for several happy days the first time I read it. It would be wonderful to experience that "first" again.

What about you?

Does it bother you if your books don’t match? N Does it bother you if your books don’t match?

Not too long ago we visited our local bookstore, and I bought my son the first book in a popular series.

He loved it and wanted the rest of the trilogy.

I went online to order the next two. But to my disappointment, although the books were available on Amazon, they didn’t have the same printed edition we found in our local bookstore.

My son had to choose between waiting for us to go back to the store so he could get the sequels to complete a matching set, or ordering the next two books online with different covers.

For my son, it was a no-brainer: he just cared about finding what happened next in the story. He wanted to get his hands on the books ASAP. So we went with Amazon, and now we have the full trilogy but with a different-looking book one.

I would much rather have got them all in the same edition, but they’re not my books!

Do you mind if you have books in the same series that don’t match?

It may sound surprising since I’m an author myself, but I’ve only met one author in person, and that was when I was ten years old and children’s writer Gordon Korman visited our school.

I have lots of online author friends, though, who are a great inspiration and support system.

How many, if any, authors have you met?

When you read, are you good at guessing what's goi When you read, are you good at guessing what's going to happen next?

I consider myself reasonably good at predicting what's coming next in the stories I read.

With romance, of course, the journey must end with a happily ever after. But it's fun to guess what detours the story will take along the way. And it's always a thrill when the plot veers off on a tangent I never saw coming.

What's your track record like in guessing the twists and turns in the stories you read?

Have you ever had to look up the meaning of a word Have you ever had to look up the meaning of a word you read in a novel?

I remember needing to reach for the dictionary to find out what “sward” meant when reading Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to use it in conversation, nor have I sneaked it into any of my own stories.

Have you ever had to crack open the dictionary while reading fiction?
